No, but in my experience, I would recommend keeping up the excellent communication. When communication is as easy and frequent as it is currently, it is very reassuring for relatives.

The way my relative is able to choose his activities at this provision has led him to feel listened to in a genuine way and has brought about a very relaxed frame of mind for him.

As a relative, this is exactly what I want for X, in order to address challenging behaviours and the repetitive cycle brought about by these behaviours.

There have been no incidents of challenging behaviour that I’m aware of. Considering the level of difficulty X and his staff team were experiencing previously, I would say he feels genuinely listened to and not needing to communicate in a challenging way.

Person-centred approach - X does not respond well to the usual incentive-based approach which can work well with children. He instead prefers adult-style conversations and just being asked nicely. The staff team have realised this themselves from what I see in their interactions with X and used it straightaway for effective support. In doing this he has decided they can be trusted and respected and is happy in their company - choosing to spend time with them instead of being alone in his room.

As a result, X is not needing contracts to help manage the use of games consoles etc. This has the added benefit of not creating goals which he may not succeed in maintaining, so the whole situation is improved.

X is developing very quickly at the moment because of his age, and the staff team engage him perfectly.

All this suggests a ‘bigger picture’ outlook which has not been as evident in other settings.

Strong teamwork is evident from my point of view because of the communications I have had form the team and from X.

Effective leadership is evident from my point of view due to the above, and communications from management.

Family time is promoted and facilitated extremely well from my point of view as a relative.
